YARD ACT

Dopo l’ottimo Ep d’esordio “Dark Days”, gli YARD ACT, quartetto post punk di Leeds capitanato da James Smith, arrivano in Italia con l’attesissimo e acclamato debut album “The Overload”. Reduci dal primissimo tour da headliner in UK che ha registrato una serie di sold out, la band di Leeds si è guadagnata il titolo di “Artist Of The Week” su The Observer e ha ottenuto una meravigliosa recensione a cinque stelle su The Times, oltre a una nomination per la lista “BBC Sound of 2022”.

Gli Yard Act si formano nel 2019 a Leeds, Yorkshire, dall’incontro tra il frontman James Smith (cove) e Ryan Needham (basso), a loro presto si aggiungono anche Sam Shjipstone (chitarra) e Jay Russell (batteria).
A gennaio 2021 la band fa il suo ingresso sulla scena musicale con “Dark Days”, un Ep di quattro tracce (“Dark Days”, “Peanuts”, “Fixer Upper” e “The Trapper’s Pelts”) che, con il suo sound post-punk albionico, raccoglie immediatamente l’attenzione dei media, facendo entrare di diritto la band tra le Next Big Thigs della nuova scena musicale inglese. L’hype per la band cresce ancora di più con la pubblicazione, da settembre 2021, dei primi tre singoli che avrebbero fatto parte del loro ormai attesissimo debut album.
“The Overload”, questo il titolo dell’album, è un disco politico, ma nello stesso modo in cui lo sono tutte le grandi osservazioni sulla natura umana: un’istantanea disordinata, complessa e consapevolmente ipocrita del nostro attuale stato di cose.
«Il capitalismo crea l’illusione della libertà», spiega James Smith, frontman della band di Leeds. «Ma in fondo siamo tutti animali, vogliamo cibo, calore, sesso, e il capitalismo ce li procura, così pensiamo che vada bene. L’intrattenimento arriva subito dopo e tutti abbiamo una tv a casa, piena di canali. La libertà non è a basso prezzo, la paghiamo in tanti modi e la domanda che ci poniamo nel disco è: come possiamo essere veramente liberi?».
